🡆 Scythes 🡄
The scythes are the source of their ability to travel with their charge into the afterlife safely. It is the source of all their powers, magically and physically. Their scythe does possess the power to claim a soul, resulting it in either being devoured by said Reaper or left to roam the world (spirits- ghosts). Only a bound Reaper can escort their charge safely into the afterlife. If a bond was severed, the journey to the afterlife is not guaranteed and that soul may find itself trapped in the real world (ghost) or devoured by a wandering Reaper.
A Reaper's scythe is essential to them and should it be severed from their body (ie cut their tail off) it will grow back within an hour. That being said, if their charge dies before their scythe grows back, they are at risk when they are passing over. The scythe part feels nothing and is made of incredibly strong and resilient material. As much as one would like to break it, it will not bend. Their tails are the only part of them that will grow back, only due to their powers being concentrated in their scythes. Scythes come in many shapes and sizes, but they all possess the same abilities regardless of their form.
🡆 General 🡄
Reapers also possess incredible super human strength and resilience. They can lift things thrice their weight and withstand things such as bullets and stabbing. With enough force and onslaught however, their skin can be pierced. Each Reaper also holds an individual power represented in multiple forms. Examples being the ability to control fire, water, earth, gravity, lightning, the list is endless. Reapers only control this one power, not being able to learn an additional one (ex: controls fire and only fire, cannot learn water, etc). The only ones who have been said to have multiple powers were Erebus and Anora, as well as the original soldiers they created.
🡆 Immortal 🡄
Reapers are immortal, not invincible. It is still possible to kill a Reaper, like you would any other being. They bleed and feel pain. If a Reaper is killed, their charge will not be escorted as the Reaper ceases to exist (they do not possess souls like their charges). Reapers do not age, they stay the same age as when they come into this life as when they depart it. However, it's not unheard of for certain Reapers to have the ability to age/de-age other Reapers. While naturally they cannot age, other Reapers have the power to replicate aging. These Reapers tend to offer their powers to those who wise to age with their charges.
